Membership
Membership of Hastings Choristers Inc is open to all who enjoy
choral music. Those who do not wish to sing are most welcome to join in a
supporting role. The requirements
specifically relating to singers are not relevant to them.
Hastings Choristers Choirs
Hastings Choristers Inc is the legal entity responsible for
the operations of all its supported choirs. At present, these consist of adult
choirs Cantorus (SATB) and Cantabile (SSAA).
The four sections in Cantorus (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass)
each have sectional representation. As well as group rehearsals, sectional
practices are held to assist with part work.
Most members of Cantorus are able to read music. Members who
do not read music need to have a good musical memory and be prepared to seek
help from a pianist to assist with learning parts. A small portable recording
device to record parts during sectional rehearsals may be beneficial to those
who have difficulty reading music. For those needing extra
help in learning music, a link to a webpage originally created by one of our
members is here.
Members must be able to sing in tune and maintain this whilst
singing against other parts.
How to Join
Introductory Procedure
It is suggested that prospective members
attend two or three rehearsals to familiarise
themselves with the routine and the music, after which a short audition will be
conducted.
Audition
Prospective singers will be given a short,
simple audition by the Musical Director, your Section Leader, and a Committee
Member. This can be before or after a choir rehearsal or during a private
appointment.
If your singing is secure, full membership
will be offered. If your singing is
not secure you will be given tips for improvement and an opportunity, to re-audition. Should your singing still
be shaky you may be told at the time of audition that full membership will not
be offered at this time. However a third audition may be offered.
Fees
Once membership has been offered, you must
agree to pay fees. Under
incorporation law membership dues must be current for insurance against public
liability. Fees are to be paid by
the third week of each school term to our Treasurer.
Health and Safety
The health and safety of our
choirs is very important to us. Our H&S policy is available for download.
