Hastings Choristers Inc is a community choral organisation founded in 1990.

We are based in Port Macquarie on the Mid-North coast of NSW around 4 hours drive, or a short flight with QantasLink or Virgin, from Sydney.  Blessed with what the CSIRO calls the most idyllic climate in Australia, Port Macquarie is a thriving coastal town and is one of the fastest-growing regional areas in the country.  Beautiful beaches abound so the full range of water sports is readily available swimming, surfing, diving, fishing, boating and more while the nearby hinterland provides a lush rural backdrop and a plethora of hiking, picnic and scenic opportunities.

In terms of arts, culture, sports and entertainment there are social clubs, clubs catering to a multitude of special interests, a large modern library, cinema complexes, golf, lawn bowls, art galleries and, of course, the Glasshouse Arts, Conference and Entertainment Centre.  This new state-of-the-art facility stands head and shoulders above any other regional alternative and many metropolitan ones.  With superb acoustic and a 620-seat main auditorium it has already been the scene of sell-out concerts for Hastings Choristers and we hope that our new Musical Director will preside over many more.

The role of Musical Director for Hastings Choristers is to direct both the SATB chorus and the female SSAA ensemble with weekly rehearsals leading to three or four major concerts each year. Both these choirs have a reputation for excellence and are in demand for performances both local and in other areas. The choirs are managed by a committee elected at the AGM in February each year.  Both choirs are known for their camaraderie and willingness to take on a challenge.

Other opportunities exist in Port Macquarie for a qualified musician - as in many country areas there is always a need for excellent accompanists, piano & singing teachers.  Whilst there is a proliferation of adult choirs in the area, community youth choral groups are in short supply so establishing those could be a possibility.
