Step by step guide to setting up Outlook Express for sending / receiving email with midcoast.com.au.

  1. Open Outlook Express.

    Click Start > Programs > Internet Explorer > Outlook Express

        (If this is not present, consult the Windows manual for installation instructions.)

  2. Click the 'Tools' menu and then click 'Accounts'.

  3. Click 'the Add' button and then click 'Mail'.

  4. Type a name in the field to name your account, then click the 'Next' button.

    This will how your email will appear to other people : "Mail from - what you typed in!"

  5. Type in your email address, and then click the 'Next' button.

    This is the address people will see to reply to : "Reply to - username@midcoast.com.au"

  6. Configure the mail server settings :

    Make sure 'My incoming mail server is a " POP3.

    In the 'Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server' type : "postbox.midcoast.com.au" (do not type in the quotation marks!).

    In the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP) server' field type : "smtp.midcoast.com.au" (do not type in the quotation marks!).

    Click the 'Next' button.

  7. Fill in account details :

    Click on "Log on using" and type in your username and password in the relevant fields (case sensitive).

    Click 'Next'

  8. Name the account (the name is of little relevance .. call it anything you like), and click 'Next'.

  9. Click 'I will establish my Internet connection manually' and then click 'Next'.

  10. . Finalise the changes by clicking 'Finish'.

 

Your Outlook Express is now configured to send / receive email.
Next time you are online, check your inbox by clicking on the 'Send and Receive' button.
