22" (56cm) Mulga (Acacia) Returning
These superb boomerangs are individually handcrafted from the same traditional source that Australian Aboriginals have used for thousands of years: the natural bends in branches and trunks of Mulga trees. This is the type of Boomerang that is now commonly referred to as the Returning Boomerang.

In stark contrast to the other shapes of Boomerangs used for hunting and fighting, these Boomerangs will rise sharply into the air with great velocity and spin (when thrown parallel to the ground). This is how Australia's coastal Aboriginals threw this type of Boomerang to hunt flocks of birds such as duck and geese. When thrown in a more upright fashion, this shape of Boomerang will circle back to the thrower with thrilling precision.

Early settlers have recorded this type of Boomerang reaching distances of 149m (162 yards) and then return to the thrower!

Traditional Non-Returning Hunting and Fighting Boomerangs.
While the returning Boomerangs take centre-stage with non-indiginous people, it is the non-returning hunting and fighting Boomerangs that gained most wide-spread use by the Australian Aboriginal hunters, who over the millenia have perfected their designs into a formidable weapon. When these Boomerangs are thrown parallel to the ground with both arms for maximum power, they can fly distances approaching 200m (219 yards) at great velocities with fearsome and destructive spin. Upon impact they can shatter the bones of targets such as Kangaroos, Emus and enemies with devastating ease.
